You’re probably wondering what you should wear to play hockey. With all
this talk about different hockey jersey fabrics you might think to
yourself that if you don’t own a hockey jersey you aren’t properly
playing hockey. While that might be true, you can still get away with
wearing a t-shirt or a sweater to your pick up hockey games. If the
games get serious and you join a league you’ll probably want to pick up a
polyester jersey at some point.
Hockey is an old sport. In fact, the National Hockey League has the
oldest championship trophy of all the North American sports. The cool
thing about hockey is that the league started out with just six teams
and has since grown to almost forty different franchises across the
nation. Hockey teams love to support their history and there are four
classic hockey teams that have done so by staying with a traditional
hockey jersey design.
The Montreal Canadiens have some of the most dedicated fans out there.
Montreal fans don’t just watch hockey, they only watch hockey when
Montreal is playing. These guys are truly dedicated to their team and
the team is dedicated to them. The Montreal hockey jersey design has
remained the same red, white and blue color scheme since its inception
and the team logo has changed only once.
Hockey jerseys have evolved with the game of hockey. They have been made
in different ways and with different patterns and styles but their
function remains the same. Hockey jerseys are designed to protect and
insulate the players while still distinguishing them from the others on
the ice. A player’s hockey jersey tells a lot about them. It gives us
their number, their team, and their last name.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that would be no where without their
fans. Toronto’s stadium sells out every single game even when the team
isn’t doing too well against the competition. Toronto went through a few
hockey jersey designs and team names before settling on the blue and
white maple leaf scheme we all know and love today. Can you believe that
they used to have a hockey jersey with green and white as the colors?
Hockey is a great sport, possibly the best sport in the history of
sports, but it doesn’t get as much publicity as it should. People just
don’t seem to be interested in the high speed, high skill, high
intensity, high impact game that is hockey and so television networks
aren’t broadcasting as many games and the games they do broadcast aren’t
very good. As hockey fans we need to try and gather support for our
favorite sport. We need to wear our hockey jerseys whenever we can
(without looking like fools) so that everyone knows we love hockey and
those who love us will eventually love it too.
