The NHL hockey jersey, apart from being witness to the colorful
unfolding of our favorite hockey league's history, is also one of the
most popular pieces of sports merchandise being sold today. Almost every
sporting and sport memorabilia and collectibles store worth its salt
carries a variety of NHL memorabilia, especially NHL hockey jerseys.
However, at times it happens that in spite of the huge glut of NHL
hockey jerseys in the market, you might not be able to find the exact
jersey that you are looking for.
Collecting hockey jerseys and keeping them pristine and fresh looking is
similarly no easy task. Here are some quick tips you can use to keep
your hockey jersey collection looking its best and ready for whenever
you are in the mood for showing it off.
First you should try not to wear your hockey jersey too often. Wearing
your jersey while lounging around the house, going to fraternity
keggers, playing hockey, or doing the dishes forces you to run the risk
of spilling beer or food on them, ripping and tearing the elbows and
patchwork, and generally wearing them out.
We can all learn a lesson from Roch Carrier's The Hockey Sweater. In
this children's book Roch Carrier write about a young boy who wears out
his hockey sweater to the point where his mother won't allow him to wear
it. The boy's mother orders him another sweater but it turns out to be
one of the rival team's! Don't be like the boy in Roch Carrier's book.
Where your sweater to important hockey games and that's it. Anywhere
else is too risky and a waste of a good thing.
Second: you should always store your hockey jerseys in a dry closet
space, display case, or picture frame. Moisture will always cause
problems and rodents, insects, and moths can make things even worse!
There is not a more horrifying feeling than taking your best jersey out
for an important game and finding that a moth has chewed holes all over
it. Keep plastic over the jersey if you're going to keep it outside of a
case at the very least. This will protect it from the elements.
Third: you should learn how to wash your jersey properly. A poorly
washed jersey's colors can run or the stitching and patchwork can come
undone. Save yourself some money and study up on the proper way of
handling your official NHL jersey. To do this, if you turn the jersey
inside out and look for the tag in the inseam it should have
instructions. If that fails follow these simple instructions: Don't wash
with bleach, wash in cold water and tumble dry on low. Hang your jersey
up on a clothesline after the tumble dry.
